I'm not classically trained - Can I participate?
Any Pilates Teacher is welcome to join my Contrology Coach or Club Programs. You will get more out of them if you are Classically Trained or Classically Curious, though.
In full disclosure, I am a purist to Joe's original Method because I have been fortunate to study with Jay Grimes (one of Joe's students and teacher) and continue to study with many amazing teachers that spend decades with Jay. Jay Grimes saw Joe's Method in action for over a decade both through his own practice as well as teaching beside Joe & Clara in their New York studio.
Like any well thought out method or system, I believe it's important to understand the roots of Pilates. A jazz player still needs to know their scales and theory in order to know when and how to bend the "rules". Similarly, a Pilates Teacher should have a solid understanding of where it all began, not just where it ended up.
When you work with me, you'll get a taste of what Joe envisioned with his method, both in your body but also through discussions and watching your cohort move. The more you can learn about the original system, the more you can understand why and how things got changed along the way. This will make you a more informed teacher, allowing you to critically examine both your movement practice and how you teach.
If this sounds intriguing and like it might help to fill in some of the gaps (that we all have!) then let's chat!can I join if I'm a new teacher?
New Pilates Teachers (and even apprentices) are welcome to join my Contrology Coach Program!
It can be lonely and scary finishing up your teacher training program. Having a safe space to help clear up confusion, dig a little deeper and start making sense of it all is what I am offering. I wish I had had something like this to help me during those first couple of years!
During our 8 weeks together, you'll gain a community of other teachers for support, ideas and inspiration. You'll have access to my experience, knowledge and understanding of the Pilates Method as I have learned it from my First and Second Generation teachers. You'll have a regular schedule of workouts to help you understand the work better in your own body. And you'll get to ask your burning questions!i've been teaching for years - What will i get out of your programs?
Here are a few thing you will get from my Programs, even if you have been teaching for years:
1. All teachers need teachers. It doesn't matter how long you've been doing Pilates, we all need eyes on us. Our personal practice informs our teaching but it can get lost in the shuffle of the business and life. Recommit to your own practice with one of my programs that will keep you moving for 8 weeks. You'll remember how good you feel when you practice what you preach!
2. Sometimes, we can get "stuck in a rut" and we need something to nudge us out of it. Exploring things from a new perspective or a different lens is a great way to do this. Both of my Programs provide this through participant driven discussions and workshops. I will willingly share what I have learned by working with First Generation teacher, Jay Grimes and the many amazing Second Generation teaches that I regularly study with.
3. Unless you teach in a busy studio with other teachers, it can be hard to find a community of people who share your passion and understand the challenges of this work. It is wonderful to have people to bounce ideas off of, hear other ways of doing things and get inspired by!
4. Being a part of a group with new teachers can help you recognize just how far you have come and how much you know. Sharing your experiences to help others flourish is an amazing to be a part of raising Pilates as an industry.
So, yes, I believe you will get a lot from my program no matter how long you have been teaching. Because I'm a believer that no matter how long you've been doing something, you can always learn more.I don't have classical equipment - will that be a problem?
Contemprorary Equipment uses different materials and is build off different dimensions, all of which change things like the angles and amount of force required. Ultimately this does change how you feel the work and therefore how your body changes in response to it. I'm a firm believer that Classical will get you stronger faster. But I also understand that it isn't always in the budget.
I have taught on Stott, Peak & Balanced Body apparatus. There are some things that just can't be replicated, but I will share what I have found that worked, to help you feel the work as best as your equipment will allow.
I don't have access to apparatus - can I participate?
Absolutely! There is a lifetime of work within the Mat Exercises. And there is so much you can do with a Magic Circle, a wall and a pair of 1.b weights.
I'm happy to discuss ways to find access to apparatus, or which might be a good first piece to purchase for your home studio.
I don't live in Vancouver, Bc - do you teach virtually?
Both of my Programs plus the Collective Sessions are designed for online participation, so you can join from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection!
This allows them to be recorded so you have the ability to review them after. This allows you to stay 100% present during the sessions, knowing that you have access to recordings for up to 4 weeks after the end of your program.Private Lessons and Open Gyms are also offered online. But if you live in Vancouver, you are welcome to take Private Lesssons and Open Gyms in person at my studio.
i can't commit to a full program - can I do drop ins?
Collective Sessions and Open Gyms are entirely run on a drop-in basis.
If there is space available in the Contrology Club Program, drop ins are permitted.
There are no drop ins for the Contrology Coach Program, however. A huge part of this program is the creation of a safe, supportive community where particpants can be vulnerable together. The Classroom Discussions build on previous weeks and so it woudl be disruptive to have people interrupting this flow.

- There are no refunds if you cancel within 5 days of the starting date, unless a replacement can be found for your spot.

- No refund if you cancel within 24 hours.
do you offer a teacher training program?
No, I do not run an official Teacher Training Program. There are enough of them out there already.
I prefer to pick up where Teacher Training Programs leave off. Once the dust from the information overload has settled and you're trying to make sense of it all. This is when the real work begins and I find it so much more exciting to be a part of this phase!
I'm happy to advise you on a program, however, because there are many things you should consider when choosing one. And I am happy to help you prepare to audition or apply to a program. I can support you through Ask Me Anything Sessions or Private Lessons.
